December 21, 2012. This date may signify many things for many people: Four days before Christmas, Ten days before the end of the year, someone's birthday, the "beginning of the end". For us? Seven years to the day of our first meeting (Josh + Erin) AND the date we are to close on our very own piece of heaven. That's right...we've made an offer... Now we wait.
It's amazing what all has to be done before you can officially purchase a piece of land. This process is a roller coaster of events and emotions.
DID YOU KNOW YOU MUST:
- Make an offer.
- Await the acceptance of that offer.
- Make a new offer.
- Await the acceptance of the second offer.
- Sign a contract.
- Pay a fee.
- Schedule soil, water and perk testing.
- Await the results of said testing.
- Schedule a survey.
- Pay a fee.
- Await the results of said survey.
- Meet with local credit union to negotiate a loan.
- Pay a fee.
- File papers and forms.
- Await the results of said loan.
- Answer questions via email/phone.
- File more papers and forms.
- Answer more questions.
- Locate a lawyer.
- Pay a fee.
- Walk the property to see the new survey flags.
- Discover that you have additional acreage.
- Pay a fee.
- File more papers ; Answer more questions.
- Receive pre-approval letter for loan.
- Schedule for an appraisal.
- Pay a fee.
- Await the results of said appraisal...
And here is where we are today. By the end of the week, we will find out if the land appraised close to our offer price. If not, we may have to start the negotiation process all over.
It sure has been an interesting "contingency period". We are praying that God will place us in the spot where He needs us most. And boy, do we hope the waiting game is over soon!
Happy Holidays to all. And to all a good night!
